Executive summary:

This document provides the specification of all possible Business-related functionalities within BeyWatch project and an overview of the main elements involved in the Business Support Systems and Graphical User Interface. It covers the user and utility needs in the current situation, and which the BSS and GUI will deal with: main interests, areas of exploitation and trends.

The document analyses the main concepts involved in BSS and GUI: the stakeholders and their roles and needs are addressed:

  • home users and their goals of reducing energy consumption and costs
  • utilities in their search of new clients
  • service providers as a new role in the market, making and selling tools to the users and utilities
  • the agent as the local software element which deals directly with the home appliances
  • the supervisor, which serves both as geographical aggregator of agents and as an entry/command door for the utility interests.

BeyWidget is a new concept introduced by BeyWatch project, a software element for the Graphical User Interface, which is easily deployed within the framework, and which covers a specific functionality either for the home user or for the utility operator.

Business Support Systems are analysed from an architectural point of view: the necessary elements and connections in order to understand the implications and communications derived from each one of the roles and their interactions.
